We started our first morning in Launceston with Dan Murphy. The shop was so big that I was very impressed. You can find all wine that you want there. Jansz is a very famous sprinkling wine made in Tasmania. The Taylors Jaraman Shiraz 2014 is an awarded wine but I could not find this year in Dan Murphy but only the 2016 one.
After stocking up some alcohol, we had a breakfast at the Delicacy which is near the Coles supermarket (Charles St). Their coffee was good and the breakfast itself was ok.
As our next stop was Cradle Mountain which is a national park, it would be hard for us to find markets there. Therefore, we go to Cole Supermarket (Charles St) to stock up some groceries. We definitely need some energy drinks with caffeine for our long drive.
It took us around 3 hours to arrive at the Cradle Mountain visitor center. While a continuous long drive was undesirable, we stopped by Sheffield for a short break. First, we bought some local strawberries and raspberries in the farmer shop right next to the visitor center.
After that, we went to the Bossimi’s bakehouse and cafe. The Bossimi’s bakery is famous for its pies. We ordered the peppered beef pie and it tasted delicious. By reading the reviews on the Bossimi’s Bakery, it received a number of positive comments and their scallop pie and cauliflower cheese pie are both very famous.
After finishing all our pie, we continued our driving journey. It was so sad that, on our way, we saw a number of animal corpses along the road. There were wallaby, wombats etc. I believe these animals were crushed by the cars at night as there was no street light in the rural area.
We stopped at the visitor center to buy the entry ticket. It is so good that the entry ticket is valid for 24 hours. It means if you buy this ticket at 3 pm today, it valid until 3 pm tomorrow. We could choose either to take shuttle offered by the visitor center or drive our own car. Finally, we decided to drive our car into the park.
Cradle Mountain Visitor Center Carpark
There is a maximum quota of car to be entered to the park. If the light of the gate is on, that means the quota has reached and no more car can go inside. Instead of going back to the visitor center to take the shuttle which time is wasting, I would suggest to wait at the car park nearby. Once there is a car exit from the gate, we can then take up that quota and enter the gate to the carpark.
The drive with the park was very winding. And you should drive very slow as the road mainly consists of one lane with driving in both directions. You need to drive slowly in order to give way to the car from the opposite direction.
After 20 minutes of drive, we arrived at the dove lake car-park. Please be reminded to put the entry ticket bought in the visitor center in front of your car. Otherwise, if the park officer cannot locate your ticket, they will issue you a penalty notice.
The Second reminder is the register at the Walker Registration at the beginning of every walking track.
The Dove Lake circuit was very easy with a magnificent view.
the dove lake circuit is amazing. There is a glacier rock which you can stand on it and have a magnificent view of the cradle mountain. The below pictures were taken while I was standing on the Glacier Rock.
This is the date that you can get into the Glacier Rock. There is a click at the top of the gate which is how you open it.
We did not complete the whole Dove Lake Circuit. Instead, we spent around 45 minutes there taking photos and relaxing. Please refer to the previous photos that you can find the time duration required to finish the walks in Cradle Mountain National Park.
After visiting the Dove Lake, we headed to the Overland track. The Overland track has many wombat and little animals. They are not in fear of human by walking towards the track. Such a lovely animal
After 2 hours of walk inside the cradle mountain national park, we went to our hotel which is the Cradle Mountain Lodge. The first photo is the reception house and the other photos were took inside my room.
The Cradle Mountain Lodge consists of more than 90 houses. They are scattered around the main reception area. Wi-Fi is only provided at the reception. So no Wi-Fi in the room. There is a spa in the room but sadly the stupid plug doesn’t fit in.
The view was good and the room was nicely decorated. You can use wood fire.
There was a short path for us to walk from our house to the lodge. We attempted to go to the Waldheim alpine spa but there was a sign showing that there was tiger snakes nesting there. So scary. We didn’t attempt to go to the spa to have a look.
The lodge is right next to the enchanted walk and King Billy walk. Even if you are not residing in the lodge, you can still grab the food in the restaurant before or after the enchanted walk.
The reception house is nicely furnished with many antique furnitures. There are antique chess and piano.
Highland restaurant and Traven Bar and Bistro are the only two options available at the Cradle Mountain Lodge. The first one is more expensive and the second one is cheaper. As we will go to highland restaurant for breakfast tomorrow, let’s try the Tavern Bar and Bistro tonight!
Travel bar and restaurant in Cradle Mountain lodge. We ordered the cradle burger and French stick. And sat at the outdoor balcony of the restaurant. It was so relaxing
The burger was excellent and very juicy.
The garlic spread of the French stick is creamy with wonderful smells
At the end of the day, we ended our tranquil night on the balcony in my room. I would say it is a bush view from the balcony. I guess the view will be better for house 1-4 as I saw that they have a large flat land before their house. The balcony is a very nice place to breath in the fresh air although there are bees and flies. Below are some pictures of the balcony.
Anyway, we had a visitor who scratched on our balcony window at night. It should be an Australian possum. I think it was frequently fed by visitors in this house. Therefore, it came to this house every night.
